Nix reportedly told police he thought he was entering his own home but also admitted to not having a doggy door, multiple media outlets reported.

San Diego Padres pitcher Jacob Nix has a preliminary hearing Wednesday to determine his legal fate after being charged with criminal trespassing for allegedly breaking into a Phoenix home through the doggie door.

As Nix was making his way into the house, the homeowner confronted him by first kicking Nix in the face and then tasing him, Maricopa County authorities said.

"Peoria police report that on October 6 about 3:30 a.m., they were called to a home near 91st Avenue and Beardsley Road for a reported trespasser".

Nix, a third-round pick of the Padres in 2015, has been charged with criminal trespassing.

As Nix and Cosgrove began to flee, the homeowner leaned out of the dog door and fired a Taser, striking Nix in the back.
