Robert Forster Dies: Academy Award Nominee Who Appeared In More Than 100 Films Was 78

Robert Forster - who appeared in more than 100 films throughout his career, including the new Breaking Bad movie - has died.

Forster was best-known for his role as the bail bondsman Max Cherry in Quentin Tarantino's 1997 film Jackie Brown, for which he earned an Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category.

It happened on the same day that El Camino, a film in which he had a role and which is based on the TV series Breaking Bad was broadcast on Netflix.

"I never forgot how kind and generous he was to a young kid just starting out in Hollywood", Cranston wrote.

Jackie Brown co-stars Samuel L Jackson and Pam Grier were among those to pay tribute.

Forster in an interview with the Chicago Tribune in 2018 recalled going almost two years without a job in a period of struggle before being cast in "Jackie Brown".

"I've done a lot of genre pictures in my career.I've always liked them", Forster told the Bleecker Street blog upon the release of 2018's indie drama What They Had. "Everything you do in life is superfluous compared to that", he said in the Tribune interview.

"He said, 'I hire anybody I want.' And that's when I realised I was going to get another shot at a career". He later starred in two David Lynch projects, Mulholland Dr. and the Twin Peaks reboot, as well as a number of television shows, including Alcatraz, Heroes and Last Man Standing.

According to Variety, Forster is survived by his children, Bobby, Elizabeth, Kate and Maeghen; his grandchildren, Tess, Liam, Jack and Olivia; and his longtime partner, Denise Grayson.
