The former Flame has scored six goals early in the season, including a four-tally night on Tuesday that solidified his standing in the Oilers' history books.

Neal completed his seventh career hat trick as he tipped in a pass from Draisaitl from the left side for his fifth of the season at 6:31 for a two-goal lead. The experienced winger now has six goals for the season already, which is the most anybody has scored for the Oilers in the team's first three games of a season.

The scoring barrage continued just 2:15 later when McDavid and Draisaitl set up a similar play, this time setting up Zack Kassian for his third of the season, giving the Oil a 4-1 lead, and Varlamov the hook.

Matt Martin got one back for the Islanders. The 32-year-old added his fourth goal in the third period.

Beauvillier got the Islanders on the scoreboard first with a short-handed goal late in the opening period. Connor McDavid and Neal executed a give-and-go during the man advantage, and the second time Edmonton's captain sent the puck to Neal's stick, the opposing defenders had allowed No. 18 just enough space for him to slide the puck around Greiss for his second goal of the period. Martin pulled the Islanders within 5-2 with 6:28 left. He has seven assists and eight points this season.

The Islanders scored first when Anthony Beauvillier beat Oilers netminder Mikko Koskinen on a shorthanded breakaway. Goalies for the Islanders recorded 11 shutouts last season while compiling a.925 save percentage.

Neal then put Edmonton ahead with a power-play goal after the Islanders' Brock Nelson was whistled for a double-minor for high-sticking.
